the boo radleys project
I was delighted to be asked to design the cover artwork for the Boo Radleys new album ‘In Spite of Everything’. The album themes are grief, loss and hope and the artwork reflects the emotional darkness and light that we experience.
Fine art prints of the artwork are available to buy, including prints of paintings referenced in the artwork and in the sleeves and labels.

about
I'm Lois, an artist with a background in structural engineering. I work in a converted potting shed studio in my Nottinghamshire home.
My work is an ongoing conversation between the precision of a structural engineer and the fluid intuition of an oil painter. Having spent my career analysing the ‘bones’ of structures, I now approach buildings and objects — such as caravans — as subjects for portraits, capturing their weight and history through loosely painted textures and realistic tones. My work is driven by the warmth of the sun and the uplifting effect of light.
This foundation in structure led my work to be shortlisted for the Royal Academy of Art Summer Exhibition and featured on Channel 4's Grayson's Art Club.
I am now dedicating more time to my art practice. Artistic inspiration comes from the works of Edward Hopper and the Australian Tonalists. I paint on a red coloured ground. Sometimes the painting feels complete before all the red is covered up – that’s the point at which I stop. Recently I have been experimenting with blending the traditional techniques with digital graphics, as can be seen in the Boo Radleys album cover artwork for ‘In Spite of Everything’.
